In another form (Mark 16:12)

Sometimes it is good to ask how Our Lord Jesus could possibly appear ‘in another form’ to us. In the Catholic Church, the ‘in another form is closely identified with the Bread and Wine that in the Eucharist is the Body and Blood of Christ. We even use such terms as ‘under both forms’ for communion received of the Body and Blood.
The Second Vatican Council made theology explicit when it spoke of Christ being present in the forms of the Eucharist, The Word, The Community that is the Church and in the Priest – who acts as ‘another Christ’.
This last idea is a sullied by the abuse of persons by Clergy. But it is worth exploring again – for who ministers Christ?
But today’s reading also asks who could be the Christ in our lives. I’ve been through a tough couple of weeks having messed up a number of significant relationships – and I’ve been amazed at who Christ has been to me – from close friends, to the parishioner-you-least-expect-to-notice-anything to the completely random friday night drunk call (is this a thing that only Catholic Clergy get?) where I was advised to replace the ‘d’ in disappointment with an ‘h’… his appointment. Totally unexpected and a great way to look at the presence of the Lord.
Packing for Rome!
